Such a wonderful productive week. As soon as I start one painting another idea pops in my head for a next one. Which is great because I can't work unless I have 3 or 4 paintings on the go. Some paintings simply fall into place while others get constructed and deconstructed constantly until I feel that it works. I've a few experimental works on the go. Trying out new surfaces to paint on.
As my carpenter buddy is in Hobart I can't ask him to build or cut boards up for me so I'm relying on what I can find at art stores. All the paintings I've been working on recently are very small and I'm hanging out to do some big, big paintings!!! Should I wait till I get back home? I don't know if I can wait!
This is a mixed media work I did before my paints arrived. There was an empty frame on the wall which my brother said I could use. On my second day here I had an amzing encounter with this giant of a kangaroo. I was outside the house looking throught the trees when I realized what I was actually looking at was a kangaroo and he was staring right back at me. He was about 15 meters away maybe less. I could feel his gaze. He craned his neck as I moved and he streched to a hight of over 6ft! Ever since I've had a wonderful feeling of excitement looking out for him everytime I go for a walk. I've seen many kangaroo's even had an clser encounter with a large female with a joey in her pouch. So don't be suprised to see some roo's popping up in some of my future paintings!
And this is the front of my place. It used to be Clifton Pugh's first studio...paint drips can still be seen on the floor boards!

I love the paintings! And it is awesome to see kangaroos so close but I think it is scary too lol I don't want to make mad a 6 ft tall animal :oP
Your paintings are simply wonderful Grace. You've got an amazing looking place there mate :O)
I LOVE your work. Cool being that close to the kangaroo. I think my Mum skites about going to a party at Clifton Pugh's place in Melbourne when she was a student nurse. Something about having to learn how to blow smoke rings so you could be sophisticated ...
I found these 2 pieces on Suzi's site, which led me to your blog--I love your style--I'll be following--thank you for sharing your art!!
